The “Lion” got himself bandaged up and back on the bike: Livorno-Lucca, Lucca-Bologna, the time trial climb from Bologna to San Luca. Since Magni couldn’t press on the handlebars on the climb, his mechanic Faliero Masi cut a piece of inner tube, tied it to the handlebars and told him to bite on it. It worked.
